Eze 22:30 And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.
The past two Sunday’s I have been encouraged to see good men come our way, making preparations to serve in the field as chosen for them. God has always been looking for good men. There is a profound dearth in our land today of good sound Men of God.
What I want you to notice with me is the fact that God is not just looking for a man, but a certain kind of man. I love dogs. I have a great black lab that I just adore and thank the Lord often for giving me a good dog. I was looking for a dog years ago – but not just any dog – a good dog that is people friendly and is a help not a hindrance. It had to be a good size dog, or otherwise I might mistake it for a rat!! You get the picture.
God is looking for a special man as evidenced by this verse. Quickly, let me share with you what kind of man He is looking for!
- He is looking for a man to stand in the gap.
A “gap” is a hole, a breach, an opening”. A “hedge” is a wall to separate and defend
against.” The phrase “standing in the gap” means to expose one’s self to and for the protection
of something; to make defense against any assailing danger.” This current generation is so in need of men who will take a stand against the enemies advances. I was encouraged by the recent meetings we had, where young men preached with conviction the Word of God and did not hold back. One told me how he was able to preach with great liberty to our folks. AMEN! I want people to be able to not hold back when they preach. PREACH! Our people can handle the truth!! If the Lord tarries, we must have men who are willing to take a stand against the worldliness creeping into our churches. We are sacrificing the “whole counsel of God” for the sake of getting and maintaining a crowd. As a preacher recently stated, “God is concerned how you do it”
May God find someone reading these words who is willing to pay a price and take up a hedge and stand in the gap. He will be pleased if you do!!
God bless you as you serve Him!
